This new home for Mudflat is an exciting place, with larger classrooms, improved equipment, additional artist studios, and a new space for expanded programs and community events. **Mudflat is a "barrier-free" facility.** Equipment KILNS Mudflat has three Bailey gas car kilns with electronic controls for both reduction and oxidation firing at high-fire cone 10: a 54 cubic foot; a 32 cubic foot, and an 18 cubic foot. The gas kilns can also be used for bisque firing. We recently added a 20 cubic foot soda kiln. • Corporate Clay Workshops | Mudflat

Corporate Clay Workshops Mudflat offers workshops for small groups of co-workers for team-building and creativity! Workshops can be scheduled for daytime, Friday evenings or weekends for up to 15 adults, focusing on basic wheelthrowing or handbuilding techniques. How the Workshop Works: A Mudflat teacher will demonstrate how to make a bowl on the pottery wheel (wheelthrowing workshop) or how to use slabs and coils to make functional or sculptural work (handbuilding workshop). Participants will work at their own pottery wheel or table space, with instruction and assistance from the teacher. Each participant will select a glaze color for their bowl/handbuilt item, so their best effort can be glazed and fired. After the workshop, the Mudflat teacher will dry and trim the pieces. Pieces are first bisque fired, then glaze is applied, then they are fired again. The whole process takes 4-5 weeks. We will wrap up and box all of the pieces for your group and notify the contact person when they are ready for pick-up, approximately one month after the workshop. Most pieces are food, dishwasher, and microwave safe. Scheduling a workshop at Mudflat: Start by filling out an inquiry form below. This form will gather information such as: How many participants are in your group? Maximum group size is 15 adults. Do you want a wheelthrowing or handbuilding workshop? What day/date/time works for your group? Daytime, Friday evenings or weekends generally work best for Mudflat. We cannot offer workshops on weekday evenings. Our event organizer will follow up with you after receiving your inquiry form.' We need a minimum of 2 weeks’ notice to schedule a workshop and find a teacher(s) for your group. Please be sure that you have interest from your group and buy-in from your workplace before scheduling a workshop. We need at least 1 week notice if you need to change the number of participants in your group. *Please Note*: Mudflat is unable to schedule corporate group workshops Thanksgiving-early January Workshop Fees: For a 2-hour long wheelthrowing/handbuilding workshop: $75 per person plus an additional $10 per person surcharge towards our Mudflat Community Outreach Fund Download an informational sheet here If you are interested, please fill out an inquiry form below Inquiry Form

  • Financial Aid | Mudflat

Financial Aid Mudflat is pleased to be able to offer financial aid to adults and children who wish to participate in our classes and workshops. We have established 4 funds that support this opportunity. The John McCooey Fund and the Ellen Schorr Fund both provide financial aid for adults enrolling in classes and workshops. The Judith Fuchel–Mahler Fund provides financial aid for adult students enrolling in handbuilding or sculpture classes specifically. The Elee Koplow Fund provides financial aid to children, as well as a parent (or other adult) and a child, taking classes and workshops at Mudflat. These Funds are supported in part by many generous individuals who have made financial contributions in memory of John McCooey, a longtime Mudflat student; Ellen Schorr, a Mudflat founder; Judith Fuchel-Mahler, artist; and Elee Koplow, a Mudflat studio artist and faculty member. The Funds are also supported by the sale of raffle tickets at our two Open Studio events each year. Mudflat artists, faculty members and students donate pottery for our popular raffles. Financial aid awards are given for partial (up to 50%) tuition of a class or workshop. Because Mudflat has a limited amount of money available for financial aid, we can only make a small number of awards each semester and students are eligible to receive one award each calendar year. (i.e. one year should have passed since the last time financial aid was awarded). Financial aid for children may be limited to one child per family per semester. Financial aid applications will be evaluated on clearly demonstrated need, the individual’s commitment to clay, and award history. If you are in need of financial assistance so that you may attend one of our classes or workshops, please fill out the application form . For more information, please contact the Director . IMPORTANT! Be sure to register for a class as soon as registration opens if you will be applying for financial aid so that if we can make an award to you, you will already be enrolled.
