During these semesters, classes meet once a week for 3 hours, and enrolled students have access to open lab hours for additional practice. Mudflat also offers an August semester where students can come to learn the basics of clay during a short summer semester.

Kids and teen classes run from September to June annually, with classes meeting once a week for 2 hours during 6-week sessions. Classes offered are: handbuilding for younger kids ages 5-7 and wheel throwing for kids and teens ages 8-17.

Ongoing classes are a great way to learn about crafting with clay!

Residencies

Mudflat is thrilled to offer two unique residency programs for professional artists seeking to work in our community clay studio. Our year-long residency program has been running since 1996 and provides artists a private studio space at no cost, access to Mudflat's facilities, a monthly materials stipend, a monthly housing stipend, and opportunities to teach and sell their work. Additionally, we offer a short-term residency program each summer for artists of color. Residents can propose their use of the program, such as developing teaching experience, creating a solo show hosted by Mudflat, or dedicating time to creating a body of work. This residency also includes a monthly materials stipend and monthly housing stipend and access to Mudflat's facilities. Consider applying to one of these great residency opportunities!

Studio Rentals

Mudflat is home to a community of 38 ceramic artists who work in private or semi-private studios, creating a diverse range of functional and sculptural pieces.  In our facility, Mudflat has two types of artist categories: Resident Artists and Associate Artists. Resident Artists are professional clay artists who have the technical skill and experience to fire their own work in the studio kilns. Associate Artists are serious clay students looking for more access, privacy, and shelf space. Both Resident Artists and Associate Artists have 24-hour studio availability, and use of other studio and classroom equipment.
