Introductory Workshop

Come try your hand at working with clay! These introductory workshops are a great way to see if you like this material. Designed for first-timers, with hands-on instruction.

WHEELTHROWING INTRO WORKSHOP

Come try your hand at working with clay on the potter's wheel. Mudflat teacher Lisa Knebel will show you how to use the potter's wheel to make your own pots. Each student will save one pot that they make and it will be glazed and fired. This is a great way to see if you like this approach to working with clay.

Each workshop meets Sundays, 1-3 pm

Tuition: $75 per person

FRIDAY NIGHT WHEEL

Have a fun Friday night in East Somerville by trying your hands at working with clay on the potter's wheel. Mudflat teacher Jesse Dougherty will show you how to use the potter's wheel and introduce you to making your own pots. Makes a great date night! Each student will save one pot that they make and it will be glazed and fired for pick-up at a later date.

Each workshop meets Fridays, 6-8 pm

Tuition: $75 per person

Refund
Policy

Refund policy for workshops:

Tuition for workshops is refundable (minus the service fee & processing fees if you cancel one week before the workshop date. If you cancel your workshop after that date, tuition may be non-refundable. Credits, refunds or transfers will not be issued for missed dates.

Pottery Pickup

Storage Period: Completed pottery for classes and workshops will be held at Mudflat for up to 2 months from the completion date. After this period, unclaimed pieces may be disposed of to make room for new student work.

Student Responsibility: Students are responsible for picking up their finished pieces within the 2-month window. Please don't forget to collect your creations! We love seeing the wonderful pieces you've made and want to ensure they make it home with you.

When registering using these two options, you will need to put in a coupon code during checkout to receive the proper discount/payment option. Please see the financial aid or EBT Card to Culture pages for more information.

Registration Service Fee

When registering for a class online, you may notice the "service fee" line item. This service fee partially covers the cost of operating this electronic booking system & taking registrations online.

Register for an Introductory Workshop

For introductory workshops, we will be booking dates 2 months in advance.

Please see below for 2026 registration dates:

January 15 at 10 am: For workshops taking place in March & April
March 15 at 10 am: For workshops taking place in May & June
May 15 at 10 am: For workshops taking place in July & August
July 15 at 10 am: For workshops taking place in September & October
September 15 at 10 am: For workshops taking place in November & December
November 15 at 10 am: For workshops taking place in January & February

Please note that we do not keep a waitlist for our introductory workshops. If we have a cancellation in a workshop, we will post the spot back on the site. If you are on Instagram, follow us @mudflat_studios and we will post about any space openings due to cancellations in our stories!
