- Financial Aid | Mudflat
Financial Aid Mudflat is pleased to be able to offer financial aid to adults and children who wish to participate in our classes and workshops. We have established 4 funds that support this opportunity. The John McCooey Fund and the Ellen Schorr Fund both provide financial aid for adults enrolling in classes and workshops. The Judith Fuchel–Mahler Fund provides financial aid for adult students enrolling in handbuilding or sculpture classes specifically. The Elee Koplow Fund provides financial aid to children, as well as a parent (or other adult) and a child, taking classes and workshops at Mudflat. These Funds are supported in part by many generous individuals who have made financial contributions in memory of John McCooey, a longtime Mudflat student; Ellen Schorr, a Mudflat founder; Judith Fuchel-Mahler, artist; and Elee Koplow, a Mudflat studio artist and faculty member. The Funds are also supported by the sale of raffle tickets at our two Open Studio events each year. Mudflat artists, faculty members and students donate pottery for our popular raffles. Financial aid awards are given for partial (up to 50%) tuition of a class or workshop. Because Mudflat has a limited amount of money available for financial aid, we can only make a small number of awards each semester and students are eligible to receive one award each calendar year. (i.e. one year should have passed since the last time financial aid was awarded). Financial aid for children may be limited to one child per family per semester. Financial aid applications will be evaluated on clearly demonstrated need, the individual’s commitment to clay, and award history. If you are in need of financial assistance so that you may attend one of our classes or workshops, please fill out the application form . For more information, please contact the Director . IMPORTANT! Be sure to register for a class as soon as registration opens if you will be applying for financial aid so that if we can make an award to you, you will already be enrolled. - Private Group - Kids | Mudflat
Private Group Workshops for Kids Mudflat offers workshops for children, teens, and parent and child pairs to explore their creativity through clay *Please Note*: Mudflat is unable to schedule private group workshops Thanksgiving-early January 2024. Workshops can be scheduled for daytime, Friday evenings or weekends for up to 15 participants, focusing on basic wheelthrowing or handbuilding techniques. How the Workshop Works: Handbuilding Workshop (ages 5+): Handbuilding offers a lot of possible projects including animal bowls, birdhouses, pumpkins, etc. Handbuilding uses pinching, coiling, and slab techniques to make functional or sculptural work. To ensure a pleasant clay experience, everyone will work on the same project. We are happy to recommend projects based on the interests of your participants. Pieces will be painted with non-toxic ceramic underglaze colors during the workshop. Wheelthrowing Workshop (ages 8+): For wheelthrowing, kids will learn how to throw a bowl on the wheel. For the wheel workshop, every child in the group is required to be at least eight years old as children younger than eight can have difficulty working with clay on the wheel. At the end of the workshop, each participant will select one bowl and a glaze color, so their best effort can be glazed and fired. Scheduling a workshop at Mudflat: Start by filling out an inquiry form below. This inquiry form will gather information such as: How many participants are in your group? Maximum group size is 14 participants. Do you want a wheelthrowing or handbuilding workshop- this may depend on the ages of the kids. What day/date/time works for your group? Until further notice, we are only able to schedule workshops for kids and parent/child groups on Tuesdays, 10 am - 5 pm and Thursdays, 10 am - 3 pm. Our event organizer will follow up with you after receiving your inquiry form. We require a minimum of two weeks’ notice to schedule a workshop and find a teacher(s) for your group.
