Surface Decoration, Mondays, 6:30-9:30 pm

Explore surface decoration for your wheelthrown or handbuilt work. Class discussions and demonstrations will cover extensive techniques. Topics for wet clay and greenware will include slips and underglazes, sgraffito and inlay, carving and stamping, and resists. Additional techniques for bisqueware will focus on glaze options, including glaze trailing and inlay, resists, and glaze testing. This is a decoration class only; there will be no instruction in wheelthrowing or handbuilding skills, so students should be able to produce this work on their own for surface experimentation. All semester long classes come with access to lab hours and your first 25 lb bag of clay. Personal clay tools are not provided, but can be purchased at Mudflat.
