About the Event

This class explores botanical and animal forms through ceramic sculpture. Drawing inspiration from the natural world — whether humans, insects, flowers or imagined hybrid creatures — students will learn to translate organic shapes into expressive clay forms. Students will learn a range of hand building techniques—pinching, coiling, slab construction, and sculpting solid—as well as surface approaches like carving, texture, slips, and underglazes. Approaches will range from observational realism to expressive abstraction and fragmentation. Students who are interested in creating vessels are also welcome and will be encouraged to explore the sculptural possibilities within a functional frame. Open to all levels.
