Our Facility The Mudflat facility includes two classrooms, one with 20 electric pottery wheels and a slabroller and the other with canvas tables and an extruder. Our annex at 143 Broadway offers a second wheelthrowing classroom with eight wheels. Three gas kilns, three electric kilns, two glaze rooms and a spray booth are available for glazing and firing work. Students can select from four different clay bodies and over 60 slips and glazes for both high and low temperature firing methods. There are fourteen individual studio spaces for clay artists.
A New Building for Mudflat!Mudflat's plans to renovate the old Broadway Theatre building into a premier clay school and studio are steadily moving forward. This new home for Mudflat will be an exciting place, including larger classrooms with improved facilities, additional artist studios, and a new space for expanded programs and community events. Our plans for the renovation of this vacant building have been completed and our project is "shovel-ready." The Massachusetts Cultural Facilities Fund grant of $300,000 that was awarded to Mudflat this past year and the improving development climate all point to this being the right time to kick this project into high gear.
We're talking to banks, meeting with our development team, and planning our fundraising strategy for the coming year. All to say, our pots are made, now we need to load the kiln and get them fired! In the meantime, we continue to fundraise to offset this $3.5 million project. Your donations, large and small, to Mudflat's Building Fund are much appreciated and will guarantee the success of the project as well as Mudflat's future health as a thriving cultural organization. |
