Ceremonial Ceramics

This class will focus on the creation of ceremonial ceramics – ritual objects, guardian figures and memorial vessels. For inspiration we will look at historical and traditional approaches to making symbolic objects, from Haniwa horses to Brancusi abstract forms. Students will learn and use a variety of handbuilding and decoration techniques to create their own unique sculptural objects.
