Visiting Artist Workshop: Hayne Bayless

Hane BaylessThis 2-day workshop with Connecticut potter Hayne Bayless will explore the principles of hand-built functional pottery, with an emphasis on how to get the most out of using the extruder and slab roller. Hayne will demonstrate unusual approaches to surface treatment, using colored slips and pattern-making materials. Other topics will include how to make customized extruder dies and how to make your own hand tools and modify those you have to suit your individual needs.

Hayne is a self-taught, full-time studio potter. "My pots are not so much about harmony, although that does happen, but more about tension. I love what spawns in the friction between what I want the material to do and what it would rather do." Hayne exhibits regularly at craft shows and galleries, including, CraftBoston, the Worcester Center for Crafts Gallery, The Artisan Gallery (Northampton,MA), and The Clay Studio (Philadelphia, PA).
