August Semester
Every August, Mudflat offers a 3-week semester of introductory classes in clay. All classes meet twice per week for a total of 6 classes. Tuition includes 25 lbs. of clay, with glazes and firings. Additional open lab time for practice is available on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10 am to 9:30 pm, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6 to 9:30 pm, and on Saturdays from 12 to 5 pm. Class enrollment is limited to 12 students. This short semester is a great way to try out a clay class or to continue your clay work through August.

Intro to Clay – Handbuilding & Wheelthrowing
This class provides an introduction to 2 ways of working in clay.
A. Mondays & Wednesdays, 6:30 - 9:30 pmBeginning Wheelthrowing
This class will introduce beginning students to the basic skills needed to work on the potter's wheel and create functional pieces.
B. Mondays & Wednesdays, 10:00 am - 1:00 pmBeginning Handbuilding
C. Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30 - 9:30 pm
This class will explore ways of working with clay slabs, coils and other non-wheel techniques to make functional and sculptural work.
D. Mondays & Wednesdays, 10:00 am - 1:00 pmBeginning Tilemaking
E. Tuesdays & Thursdays, 6:30 - 9:30 pm
This class is an introduction to making and decorating clay tiles.
F. Mondays & Wednesdays, 6:30 - 9:30 pmIndependent Study
Previous Mudflat students may enroll in Independent Study (no instruction) for these same three weeks in August. Open lab hours are same as listed above. Tuition includes 25 lbs. of clay, with glazes and firings.
